Monday Memo

Back to School!

Hello Parents,

Only two more days until the beginning of a brand new school year!  Each new school year brings many opportunities for academic growth and development in students.  We are so excited to see the students again and to begin a great new journey!  We have many new and exciting things planned for our students this year.   One of which will be teaching our students to develop their own unique gifts and talents as they are given opportunities to become leaders.   I would like to invite you to check out our Leader in Me information table at our Open House to learn more about helping students become leaders!

Upcoming things to be aware of:

Calendar

Aug. 21:  Open House:  4:00-5:30 p.m.   Come and meet your teacher and see your classroom!

Aug. 22:  First day of school, 1st-6th Grades

Aug. 29:  First day of school, Kindergarten/Preschool

Aug. 29:  Hearing Screening, Kdg, 1st, 3rd, 5th

Sept. 4:  Labor Day, NO SCHOOL!

Open House:  Our Open House will be Monday, August 21st from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Come see the school, your classroom and teacher during our Open House.  This is a time to see what its all about.  Students and parents are welcome anytime during these hours.  We ask that you don’t come before this time or on another day as teachers are in meetings and busily prepping for school to start.  We will also have information tables about PTA, Lunchroom, The Leader in Me, and Watch D.O.G.S.  We hope to see you there

1st Day of School:  Our first day of school for grades 1-6 is Tuesday, August 22nd.  We have our pick-up and drop-off areas in front of the school.  This is a NO PARKING zone!  If you are waiting with your child, please plan on parking in our parking lot so that we don’t create a traffic jam in the drop-off zone!  Thank you so much for your help with this!

Team Up:  Cherry Hill Elementary is committing this year to making recess a fun, inclusive place for every child in our community to play every day.  That’s why we’re brining a Recess Consultant to strengthen our school community.  Our Site Coordinator will work alongside our staff and students to shape recess activities that promote the social and emotional learning of our kids.  Be looking for monthly updates in our newsletter about how we are creating leaders on the playground!

Skyward Student Information Update:  CRITICAL!

This year it is required that every parent complete the student information update on Skyward.  This is not only a chance to update your address and emergency contact information but there are two important documents that you need to acknowledge for your student this year.  Due to changing laws, Every student needs renewed permission to access technology and devices at school.  Without these permissions, your child will not be able to use any devices or technology at school. Technology is an integral part of our instruction so it is imperative that these permissions are given before school starts!  Click HERE to login to Skyward. If you don’t know your login/password, click the “forgot login/password” link and follow the instructions. If you have any other questions or problems as you are working with Skyward, please call the front office to speak with Patti Henwood.

Click HERE for a video tutorial on how to do the update.  Chrome is not a compatible browser for the update and people have encountered glitches while using Chrome to do the update.

Lunch/Breakfast

Breakfast is served every day from 7:35 – 7:55 and 8:50 – 9:10.  Cost for students is $1.00.

Students can bring their own lunch to school or eat lunch from the school cafeteria.  Cost for a regular student lunch is $1.75.  You can pay in the lunchroom or make “No Fee” payments online using MyPaymentsPlus.  This site also allows you to set up payment reminders.

Click here for Free/Reduced Price Meal Application  Applications must be renewed each year.  Do it now to avoid delays and charges.

Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns!  I am looking forward to another awesome year at Cherry Hill with our amazing teachers, and most importantly, YOU, our partners who we support in educating your children!

Here are things happening at Cherry Hill to be aware of:

Dance Festival:  Our annual Dance Festival is Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.!  This will be held on the back field.  Parents may sit on the North and South ends of the cordoned off area.  Please do not sit in the corners of the sections, as our students use those areas to get on and off of the dance area!

Field Day:  Field Day is Wednesday, May 24 9:00-11:00.  This is the last big activity of the year, and we could still use some more volunteers!   Please click here to sign up to volunteer!  Everything is provided; you just show up and supervise the activity!

Yearbooks:  If you purchased a yearbook, they will be coming home on Monday!

Summer Hours:  During the summer months the office will be open on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  This will begin on June 13th.  The library will also be open to check books out on Tuesday during the same hours!

Lunch Charges:  If you have any outstanding lunch charges, the lunchroom would appreciate prompt payment so that they can clear their accounts.  Thank you for your help with this!

Skyward/Class Lists:  Class lists will no longer be posted on the front doors in August.  Parents will need to access Skyward in order to see their child’s 2017-2018 teacher.  These will be posted on Skyward on August 15th.  A letter will be coming home with report cards that gives instructions on how to access Skyward along with your child’s login.  These instructions are also posted on our website.

Lost & Found:  We have collected many coats, hats and gloves that have lost their owners!  Please take the time to stop by the front hallway and check our lost and found if you have a child with a missing item.  All items will be donated to charity on the last day of school!

CHEF News:  Here is our last installment of CHEF News!  Enjoy!  https://youtu.be/ZBq7p8VPXqo

Spirit of Alpine Awards:  Every year Alpine School District recognizes one certified teacher and one classifies employee for their Spirit of Alpine Awards.  Trish Jellen was selected as our teacher of the year.  Mrs. Jellen is an amazing advocate for all of our students and works extremely closely with all of our teachers and staff to help students succeed.  She goes above and beyond what is expected and is such a critical part of Cherry Hill!  Patti Henwoord was honored as our classified employee of the year.  Mrs. Henwood does an outstanding job running our front office and has such a positive, cheerful attitude with all the crazy things in the office!  She is so efficient and is such a great help to any and all!  We love you Mrs. Jellen and Mrs. Henwood!
